Baked Shakarbura Recipe (Azerbaijani Sweet Pastry)
Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 cup plain yogurt
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup ground walnuts
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions:
- Prepare the Dough:
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, melted butter, and plain yogurt. Knead the mixture into a smooth dough.
- Divide the dough into small walnut-sized balls and cover them with a damp cloth. Let them rest for about 30 minutes.
- Prepare the Filling:
- In a separate bowl, mix the granulated sugar, ground walnuts and ground cardamom to create the filling.
- Shape the Shakarbura:
- Take one of the dough balls and roll it out into a thin circle, about 1/8 inch thick.
- Place a spoonful of the walnut filling in the center of the dough circle.
- Fold the dough over the filling to create a half-moon shape.
- Use a fork to seal the edges of the pastry, creating a decorative pattern.
- Bake the Shakarbura:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Place the shaped shakarbura on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes, or until they turn golden brown.
- Serve:
- Once the shakarbura have cooled slightly, dust them with powdered sugar.
- Enjoy your homemade Azerbaijani sweet pastries with a cup of tea or coffee!
