    Ingredients:

    • 2 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
    • 1/2 cup plain yogurt
    • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
    • 1/2 cup ground walnuts
    • 1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
    • Powdered sugar for dusting

    Instructions:

    1. Prepare the Dough:
      • In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, melted butter, and plain yogurt. Knead the mixture into a smooth dough.
      • Divide the dough into small walnut-sized balls and cover them with a damp cloth. Let them rest for about 30 minutes.
    2. Prepare the Filling:
      • In a separate bowl, mix the granulated sugar, ground walnuts and ground cardamom to create the filling.
    3. Shape the Shakarbura:
      • Take one of the dough balls and roll it out into a thin circle, about 1/8 inch thick.
      • Place a spoonful of the walnut filling in the center of the dough circle.
      • Fold the dough over the filling to create a half-moon shape.
      • Use a fork to seal the edges of the pastry, creating a decorative pattern.
    4. Bake the Shakarbura:
      • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
      • Place the shaped shakarbura on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
      • Bake in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes, or until they turn golden brown.
    5. Serve:
      • Once the shakarbura have cooled slightly, dust them with powdered sugar.
      • Enjoy your homemade Azerbaijani sweet pastries with a cup of tea or coffee!
